Skin Lyrics was recently invited by the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) in collaboration with the Nelson Mandela University (NMU) to participate in and exhibit our range of dermocosmetics and at the 2ndIndigenous Knowledge and Bio-Trade Indaba. This was held from 6-7 August 2024 at the Boardwalk International Convention Centre in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.
The platform brought together various stakeholders in the field of Indigenous Knowledge systems to network, share knowledge on current developments and showcase progress by the TIA and other stakeholders in enriching the development and commercialisation of Indigenous Knowledge (IK) based innovations.
The key stakeholders included:
Indigenous Knowledge Holders (rural communities holding various form of IK, including Traditional Health Practitioners.)
Academia involved in IK-based innovative research.
Industry sectors at the interface of Indigenous Knowledge in health, agriculture, food, and cosmetics & personal care.

This invaluable opportunity on various levels to expose our range of functional dermocosmetics to new audiences and interact with the various stakeholders was beneficial to our brand development and a truly inspirational experience.
The opportunity for our founder, Prea Moodley, to share her knowledge in a formal presentation on the topic of ‘Market Opportunities, Challenges and Trends in Development and Commercialisation of Indigenous Knowledge-Based Cosmeceuticals’ was well received.
Key points highlighted in the presentation included:
